Eisriesenwelt (natural limestone and ice cave)

An impressive castle and the world’s biggest ice cave

Ice cave - castle – bird of prey demonstration

A visit to Werfen offers something for everyone. Our first stop is the Eisriesenwelt which is the biggest ice cave in the world with more than 42 km of paths! On the guided tour (ca. 1 hour) you will see breathtaking ice figures which have been shaped by nature. Dress warmly and wear sturdy shoes!

Our next stop is Hohenwerfen Castle situated just below the Eisriesenwelt which was built in 1077. This has been the setting for numerous famous films for example, “Where Eagle Dare” in 1968.

There is a daily bird of prey demonstration here at 3.00 pm which shows how falcons (the most commonly used birds of prey) were used in hunting in past centuries.

And, for anyone who would like to take part in a (motor)sport after the castle visit, we also offer a jet boat trip on the Salzach (€35 for adults / €25 for children – please book in advance!)
